April 17, 2007

It seems like forever since I have posted. I apologize, I have really been attempting to update more often this go round. It has been crazy, hectic, up and down in the past week and a half. It has been horrible to see and experience how a house fire devastates a family, who all it affects and what it does to the actual homeowner.. much less to the kids that helped build that home and had such strong ties to it. The fire happened, it devastated all of us... but life has went on. Two days after the last post I made, there was a death in our family. Bill's cousin was in a car accident and she was killed. She was just 26 and had small children. One of her children was in the car with her, he is four.. and was hurt really bad. He has been in the hospital for the last week and got to come home today. It seems like every time something bad happens in this family, something horrible comes right on its heels. Mom seems numb anymore. Its like so much has happened that she just can't process it all. But, like I said.. life has to go on.
This week we have had the rubble cleared off of the property, started the clean up process and started laying concrete for the footer and the foundation. I am learning alot about building a house and boy is it backbreaking! Yesterday we dug out the footer from the debris and dirt that was shoveled in with the backhoe thingy when they took the big lot of debris from the house. I have muscles that I have not used in.. well EVER screaming at me to lay down and leave them alone. I call them my Bitch muscles.. they are saying.. "Bitch, what in the hell do you think you are doing?" Today the footer thingy was re-cemented and tomorrow we get to finish the footer and start laying block for the foundation. My uneducated guess is that we will start actually building next week or so. I am both looking forward to it and dreading it. I figure I will lose the pounds I packed on over the winter with all the hard work we will be doing but it will certainly be painful and tiring. I am looking forward to learning the whole process for building a house from the ground up but hate that it had to be done under these circumstances. I am going to get some batteries tomorrow for the camera and take pictures. I am determined to document the whole build process.

On the whole "life goes on" home-front, Laura has had two soccer games that she was able to make over the last week and they kicked butt! They have won all but one game and that was one the she wasn't able to make it to with everything going on. Joe is going to start playing tomorrow on the team and is super excited. He wont be able to play against certain teams since they are made up of mainly older kids, but there are some teams that have little kids on them so he can play against those teams.

Laura and Dustin went to the ROTC Military Ball and had so much fun. They both looked great and I was so proud of them both. Seeing Dustin in that uniform and Laura all dressed up made me feel freaking old! They are both so grown! Where did the time go??

I finally have Cable Modem! Holy sheep shit batman! I am so entirely psyched it is beyond belief. I can upload pictures now!!!! Whoohoo!
OK, American Idol... Sanjaii? WTF??? That's all I have to say on that one. Just... Holy crap, come on!!!
