School Issues:
I have some serious issues with the school that my children currently attend. Dealing with the issues we have had this year makes me want to just go in there like a raving lunatic... but I tend to hold my temper, walk into the principals office and say "We have an issue and it HAS to be taken care of". I am sure that the man is so tired of hearing this phrase this year that he sees me coming into the school and hides under his desk hoping that I will go away. He. Is. Wrong. :) I am much more persistant that that people, come on! Here are a few of the issues we have dealt with so far....
One week into school, a little boy actually took a pair of scissors and CUT. THE. SHIRT. OFF. OF. MY. EIGHT. YEAR. OLD. My question, do they not see that this situation could have went horribly wrong and my sweet baby could have been seriously injured? I asked him why he didn't try to get away, or tell the teacher, or SCREAM? Do you know what my precious child says to me? "Um, Mom... He had a pair of SCISSORS. Duh!" The schools way to deal? They talked to the kid and thats about it. Ummmmm????????
Around September, not too long after Bill was released from the military, we were working around Moms house doing something and the phone rings... its the school. Dustin has had an "accident" and is bleeding profusely from his head, they are sure he needs stitches and could I come to the school... fast... they were a bit freaked out about the amount of blood that was pouring from my childs head. I promptly run from the house and make the normally 20 minute drive in ten minutes flat... I think I actually straightened some of the curves in the road out... which of course would not be a bad thing around here. I walk in and they have gotten the bleeding to stop, my son is covered from head to toe in blood... gruesome sight I tell you! It doesn't need stitches thank heavens, but we think after this that Dustin May be a bleeder, and then the issue with Laura's tooth, her bleeding so bad she scared the dentist half to death to the point that he wont touch me to pull a tooth... well it must run in my side of the family.. heck of a thing to be the ONLY thing that your kids take after you eh? Anyway, the situation was that a boy had come back from the alternative school and the first day back apparently wanted to show he is a bad ass, so he took a binder and whacked Dustin upside the head with it, splitting his head open. Now, oh wise reader.. have to be thinking that they immediatly threw this punk out of school? Suuuuure they did, for a day! Then they put him right back in the same room with Dustin and he proceeded to torture my son for over a month. I had to go with Bill and his mom to the school and we all had to go schitso for this moron to protect my son. Three trips later, they finally kicked the boy to a different school, before he brought a knife or gun to school and took out the kids he tortured. Good grief!
Last month, Laura had an issue with some girls at school. An argument happened with one girl over something so silly I can't even remember it. Well, being girls... and hormonal, it turned into this big huge deal with each girls friends mad at the other girl in question. After a week of Laura being pushed into lockers and threatened, her Mp3 player stolen out of her purse and her locker trashed, we started our trecks back and forth from the principals office. We left Bill at home this time, since the time with Dustin he went a little bit off on the principal and told him if anything happened to his kids again... well you can imagine what he said. ;) Anyway, the last trip down there, there were rumors that the girl she was arguing with and her bunch of friends were planning to "jump" laura in the hall. We warned the principal who of course assured us that he would take care of it. What happened the very next day? Laura was jumped, in gym class, by six girls. She held her own and just got a small scratch, but while she was rolling around fighting with one girl the other five were kicking and stomping on her! The gym teacher you ask? Where was she? Out of the room! So, what happens? They break up the fight, and give LAURA After school detention along with TWO of the other girls. WTF???!!! I called the boneheaded principal and told him he was a crazy idiot if he thought my daughter would spend one second in detention for defending herself when he KNEW it was going to happen. He said it was because she continued to 'fight'... in other words, she didn't lay there and let them kick her to death, she was defending herself. Never in my life have I ever talked to a school official the way I did that day and I think he understands that he is forever more on my "shit list". The next morning, I went to the School Superintedant and went off. That got results. When I told her about Joes incident, Dustins and then this mess with Laura and told her that I felt as if my children "WERE NOT SAFE AT ANY MOMENT IN THEIR SCHOOL" well that got her. I thought all would be well in school land after that. I'm a bit dingy.. we all know that. ;)
Now, we have had an incident with a teacher berating and demeaning Laura in front of her whole class, which the principal said he would take care of, and now this same teacher has just gotten SUSPENED , not FIRED... until next fall, for coming into the classroom and going off, screaming at the whole class (Dustins class, they have the same teacher for different classes) for driving her insane, making her have a nervous breakdown and making her want to kill herself... yes, she said all this to a class of 15 year old kids, while screaming... then she took a clipboard, smashed it in half over her desk, threw it across the room, barely missing a very shocked teenager and storms from the classroom! And they think that she belongs in a school, the same school, next year teaching the same grade level? Ummmmm... NOT MY CHILD.... EVER.
As if all that wasn't enough for one year, now poor Joe is having to pay for the fact that he has been, in my humble opinion, been made ill almost all year from being IN this school. Now, before you think I am just one of those crazy moms.... Joes was NEVER sick until we moved down here, minor colds, but that was it. We move here, through the summer, he was fine.... school started and he has been sick ALL YEAR. Well, we hear rumors that the septic system is backing up in the school and that they have black mold, they don't clean the rooms well, etc.... So, I get a lightbulb moment and decide to take matters into my own hands. I banned him from eating, drinking and snacking on ANYTHING from the school. I pack his breakfast, lunch and snacks.. drinks... all digestable materials. I thought it might help some... but guess what? He hasn't been sick not once in the three or four weeks since I started doing this. So.... I can only come to the conclusion that there is a direct link. Now, they know how sick he has been, at the doctors every week, actually in the hospital, etc... I brought up concerns about his grades and the possibility of being held back and was assured that wouldn't happen. My baby comes home yesterday bawling his head off because he has a note from his teacher stating he will be held back next year. No offer of tutors, no offer of summer school to catch up... just a note.
I have had enough! As a military family, we have bounced between schools all the time, teachers come and go and so I have dealt with tons of schools and teachers. Never have I had issues like this from one school. The school is run by a monkey and the teachers, not all of them, but a few... are apparently either tired, too damned cranky or just plain hate their jobs.
Next year... they will go to Buckhorn, which is a 30-40 minute drive and I'm sure an hour to hour and a half long bus ride, but dealing with this school again? Hell, I'll wind up in jail for running my mouth!
